Black Ice Software has released the Print2RDP and Print2Desktop version 6.86 with a new exciting feature to allow any logged-in remote desktop (RD) users to print on any other RD user’s local printers. This new feature has far-reaching implications for environments such as hospitals, warehouses, manufacturing plants, and field workers. Allowing users to access printers in a variety of physical locations through an RD connection.

Under normal conditions when a user logs into a Server through an RD connection, the users can see only their own printers. When the highly specialized feature of “Make attached printers usable by every logged-in user” is enabled, every user can see/access every logged-in user's local printer. Do not use this feature unless you have a clear understanding of this feature and which printers users will have access to.

Below are some examples of how this feature can be implemented or utilized.

• In Hospitals, for example, doctors need to print a lab request directly to the Lab’s physical printers, or nurses need to print patient reports directly on the “nurse station” central printer. In the medical field, there could be countless examples where staff needs to access printers that are not assigned to a specific person but instead a centralized station or physical location.
• In Manufacturing and Warehouses, management and engineering may be working from a remote location outside the network but need to access specialized printers to print complex documents on the factory/Warehouse floor. Now as long as one local user on the network has access to the specialized printers any user that accesses the server can also print to the specialized printer.
• Field workers face a similar dilemma to those of remote manufacturing and warehousing. Many times they have access to their RD connection, however, do not have a Printer with them out on the field. With this new feature, Field workers can access Printers located back at their office while out at a customer site.

Print2RDP and Print2Desktop Version 6.86 is not a critical update.
